OK … We’re Ready to Start Building the Catalog
March 9th, 2009“Finally”, I hear you saying.
I know, I know. It’s taken a little longer than we’d hoped, but we’ve now got a few coding issues that had been bedeviling us all worked out and we’re ready to start building the catalog.
We’re going to start by moving existing IndyPlanet listings over to ComicsMonkey. So if you’ve got a comic, poster, t-shirt, or graphic novel listed at IndyPlanet and you’d like to also list that product (or products) at ComicsMonkey, then here’s what you need to do –
– Login at Ka-Blam.com and then click the My Info button at the top right part of the screen. Scroll down a bit and — if you have at least one IndyPlanet listing — you will see a section called My Sales and Earnings. In the table there you will see one column for your IndyPlanet listings and another beside it for ComicsMonkey.
To copy your IndyPlanet listing over to ComicsMonkey, simply enter the price at which you would like to offer the book at ComicsMonkey and then click the List at ComicsMonkey button.
Now about the price you enter in that price field … Your price point at ComicsMonkey must be at least 150% of your Ka-Blam printing cost. The table shows you the minimum price for your item based on your printing cost. You may choose the minimum price or if you would like you can go higher (but not lower … remember your price must be at least 150% of your printing cost). Please note, that for the sake of uniformity and to avoid oddball price points — thereby making life a bit easier for our friends in retail — we round up to the nearest $0.50 or $0.99 mark.
So, for example, if you select an oddball price point of $3.23 we’ll round that up to $3.50. If you select $3.77, then we are going to round up to $3.99. Make sense?
Once you have entered a price point, the table will then show you what your profit per copy sold will be.
One last thing about choosing a price point … we would strongly recommend that if you have a listing at IndyPlanet and at ComicsMonkey that you have only ONE price for that listing and not two prices — not an IndyPlanet price and a ComicsMonkey price. The reason? Retailers who might be interested in carrying your products in their stores might feel somewhat understandably undercut if you offer the same product at IndyPlanet for less than it’s available to them at ComicsMonkey.
If this means, raising your price at IndyPlanet then that’s what we recommend you do. Please understand this is not about goosing up your IP price just so we make more money. It doesn’t work that way. We don’t charge a listing fee so we’re only getting the printing cost regardless of what your cover price is. Our money is the same. No, this is about avoiding even the appearance of impropriety and showing the retail community proper respect. Are we going to force you to not have two prices for the same item at IndyPlanet and at ComicsMonkey? No. We will leave that decision up to you, but be forewarned … if retailers perceive you as undercutting them then you run a real risk of alienating them and preventing them from ordering your products.
OK … enough about that …
We’re opting NOT to build a separate listing editor specifically for ComicsMonkey, but rather we’ll be morphing and renaming our existing IndyPlanet Listing Editor (at Ka-Blam.com) into a Listing Editor for listing and editing products simultaneously for both IndyPlanet AND ComicsMonkey.
If for some reason you want your products listed ONLY at one site and not the other — such as in the case of consignment comics which you can list at IndyPlanet, but not at ComicsMonkey … at least for now — then the listing editor will allow you to opt out of listing at either site.
So if you do NOT have any IndyPlanet listings at present, but want to have your products at ComicsMonkey when we launch, then you’ll first need to create a listing using the Listing Editor. The instructions are pretty clear and at the site. We would hope you would consider also listing your products at IndyPlanet as well as at ComicsMonkey, but the choice will be yours.
You won’t be able to see your new listings immediately. It’s going to take us a little while to proof all the listing transfers — make sure everything copies smoothly … formatting, graphics, etc. So please be patient with us. We’ll be posting here as soon as we’re ready for you to take a look.
More soon …
